The Reading Age Test
A gentle assessment to help parents understand where their child’s reading journey is right now.
This test covers three areas — word knowledge, sentence sense, and reading comprehension — and takes around 10–15 minutes to complete.
Before you begin
- Sit with your child in a quiet, comfortable space.
- Read each question aloud together if needed — especially for younger readers.
- Encourage your child to try each question; guessing is perfectly fine.
- There is no pass or fail — only a helpful picture of where your child is right now.
- Results are shown at the end with guidance on next steps.

Nadia had always loved books, but she had never visited the old library at the end of Jasmine Street. One afternoon, her grandmother suggested they go together.
As they stepped inside, Nadia was overwhelmed by the smell of old pages and polished wood. Rows and rows of books lined the walls, reaching all the way to the high ceiling. A quiet woman at the desk smiled at them warmly.
“My grandmother used to bring me here,” Nadia’s grandmother whispered. “I read my first story about courage and honesty right in that very corner.” She pointed to a worn armchair beside the window.
Nadia found a book with a golden cover and settled into the armchair. As she read, the noise of the street outside faded away completely. She understood now why her grandmother had always said: “A good book is a gift you give yourself.”
