AMWASA Reading Challenge 2026
Building a love for reading, one page at a time
The AMWASA Reading Challenge is a simple, feel-good initiative designed to encourage children to read regularly at home, with the support of their families. The focus is on consistency, enjoyment, and nurturing a positive relationship with books — without pressure or competition.
This challenge has been thoughtfully designed to be low-admin for schools, easy for parents, and uplifting for children.
How the Challenge Works
- Parents register their child online using a short form (below)
- Children read at home, at their own pace
- Reading is tracked using a simple, trust-based reading log
- Parents will be contacted to submit the results – late October.
- Certificates of Participation (physical) will be couriered directly to the school – late November.
AMWASA manages all registrations, communication, and administration.
Who Can Take Part?
- Learners from any South African school
- Children of all reading levels
- Families who would like to build a gentle reading habit at home
Books may include school readers, library books, or home collections. Parents remain responsible for choosing age-appropriate material.
A Trust-Based Approach
This challenge operates on trust and honour. There is no daily verification or proof required. We encourage families to participate with sincerity, remembering that the true reward lies in the habit formed, not the certificate received.
Every page read with good intention counts.
For Schools
We understand the workload educators carry, especially at the beginning of the year.
As the founder of AMWASA and a teacher myself, this challenge has been intentionally structured so that:
- Schools only need to promote the challenge
- Teachers are not required to track reading or collect logs
- All correspondence and administration are handled by AMWASA
Schools will receive Certificates of Participation at year-end for distribution to learners.
Certificates & Recognition
- All eligible participants will receive a Certificate of Participation
- Certificates will be distributed to participating schools at year-end
- Optional recognition or prize draws may be announced during the challenge
Important Notes
- This challenge is hosted and administered by AMWASA, not the school
- All queries and correspondence must be directed to AMWASA (details below)
- Participation is based on honesty and trust
- Personal information is used only for the administration of the challenge
