Two sessions to choose from

Adults and Teens

  • Selected readings (3–5 minutes)
  • Family-friendly content
  • 45-60 minutes

Kids

Special edition for young readers and storytellers:

  • Ages 7–12 (parents/guardians register on their behalf and must be in attendance)
  • Short readings (2–3 minutes)
  • Fun reflections and storytelling by a guest author
  • Family-friendly and values-aligned

Two Ways to Join

Whether you want to read your piece or simply enjoy the stories, there’s a place for you.

1. Readers / Presenters

  • Share a short reading (adults: 3–5 minutes; kids: 2–3 minutes)
  • Selected pieces only — limited slots available
  • Submit your piece for pre-approval via our submission form
  • Receive a confirmation email with event details

2. Viewers / Spectators

  • Listen, enjoy, and support our readers
  • Unlimited slots — open to all
  • Receive the meeting link via email after registration

What You Can Read at Books & Mics

Your reading should be:

  • Short & sweet: 3–5 minutes for adults, 2–3 minutes for kids
  • Family-friendly: No explicit language or inappropriate content
  • Values-aligned: Reflects respect, kindness, or positive themes

Suggested Reading Ideas

For Adults / Teens:

  • Short stories or excerpts from your own writing, creative writing, school compositions
  • Personal reflections, essays, or poetry
  • Inspirational or motivational pieces
  • Passages from literature that celebrate Islamic values, family, or community – credit to be given

For Kids:

  • Short stories you wrote yourself
  • Favourite age-appropriate story passages – tell us which book it is from
  • Poems, rhymes, or gentle reflections
  • Fun readings that highlight good morals or creativity

Tips for a Great Reading

  • Practice your piece aloud before submitting
  • Speak clearly and at a comfortable pace
  • Keep your reading within the time limit
  • If it’s a story excerpt, choose a scene that can stand alone

Event Details

  • Online platform
  • Duration: 45-60 minutes
  • Registration closes: 1 week before the event

Limited reader slots | Unlimited viewer slots
Advance registration required for all participants


How to Register

  1. Fill out the short registration form
  2. Select your track: Presenter or Spectator
  3. If you’re reading, submit your piece via a Google Form

Books & Mics is free for everyone. If you’d like, you may make a small contribution to help us continue hosting these gatherings. Contributions are entirely voluntary and most appreciated.
